WE EXPERIENCED A SIMULATED MONTH

IN POVERTY … IN HALF A DAY LAST JUNE 24

Learn how it went at  SJASR.ORG/POVERTY/ACTION, and keep an eye on this page to find out when our next simulation will be. This interactive event will increase our understanding of poverty and will offer us ways to be involved in alleviating poverty in our community. Unless you’ve experienced poverty, it’s difficult to truly understand the reality of it. The Community Action Poverty Simulation is an immersive learning experience.

This experience is based on real people and their real lives.

  • Date: TBD, 10:30 a.m. to ~3:30 p.m. (lunch included)
  • Place: St. Joan of Arc Gym, 2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd., San Ramon, CA
  • Who: Adults and Teens (ages 16 and above). Teens are strongly encouraged to attend with their parents.

Poverty is a reality for many individuals and families. But unless you’ve experienced poverty, it’s difficult to truly understand. The Poverty Simulation bridges that gap from misconception to understanding. The simulation is an interactive immersion experience. It sensitizes participants to the realities of poverty. It is not a game. It is based on real Community Action clients and their lives.

During the Poverty Simulation, you will take on the identity of someone. You will work together with your ‘family’ (not your real family, but a family of other role-players like you) to live a month in poverty. Ready for the experience?
